Leaves on the Trees

My favorite thing to think about when I'm out for a walk in the woods is knitting. What shapes are around me? How can I borrow them for my work? Right now, the leaves are popping, filling the long-bare branches with color and shape. It's no accident that the latest shawl I'm working on (in a luxurious merino/silk/yak yarn) is filled with unfurling leaves. This photo is taken while the work is in progress; at first lace stitches look a bit crumpled, but after the blocking process they will spread to their full lacy glory.
